Support the establishment of an effective Library Advisory Committee
UPDATE (April 29, 2026) - The Library Advisory Committee plan is being updated to reflect the crux of the revisions we put forward, thanks in large part to the open letter you supported.
When we circulated the open letter, our initial goal was 30 signatures. You can imagine my delight when I delivered the letter to Council on Tuesday night with 125 signatures with representation from every district in the City.
City Hall insiders have shared that the letter and its sprawling support was a true difference maker.
As some of you may recall, back in February, when this committee first came to council it was hotly debated. Fast forward to Tuesday, following extensive outreach and the delivery of our letter earlier this week, the motion put forward by Councilmembers Martinez-Franco and Treseder accepting our revisions earned unanimous support. These revisions put the committee on track to deliver the kind of transparent, informed, regular community-city exchange that has been missing so far in this process.

Thanks to the leadership of Councilmembers Treseder, Liu, Go, and Martinez-Franco, a committee to ensure a transparent, community-responsive build out of IPL is finally in the works. City staff has prepared a plan for the committee that Council is expected to approve next week. To ensure the success of these plans, we are calling for two revisions:
designated positions for the various Friends of the Library (FoL) organizations and
more frequent meetings.
To support the Library Advisory Committee and the inclusion of these important voices, please use the form at the bottom of the page to add your name to the community letter we will provide to Council.
